At our school, we use the Montessori approach to education in order to give your child the best education possible. Montessori education is an approach to education first developed by Maria Montessori in 1897. This approach considers the social, physical, and psychological development of a child. It has an emphasis on intelligence and freedom within limits. There are many myths about Montessori education and the schools that offer this type of education. If you have heard these myths, you can find the fact behind it below.

Myth: All Montessori schools are connected to some type of religion.
Fact: Actually, most schools are not tied to religion. At Newport Ave Preschool & Kindergarten, the education is not tied to a religion, so religion is not taught here. We accept children of all backgrounds and beliefs.
Myth: Montessori techniques can only help children who do not have special needs.
Fact: Montessori techniques can be successful with all children, whether they are gifted or have any special needs. Because we uniquely consider the development of your child, we can provide an education catered to each student. No matter what the needs of your child are, we can provide an education that will be best for him or her.
Myth: Montessori schools are not set up that differently from other public school programs.
Fact: At our school, your child will progress through the curriculum at his or her own pace. There is no comparison to other children, and much of your child’s time is spent doing work that he or she chooses. In many other public school programs, some children can get left behind because they do not have the time to understand the curriculum. Other times, they can waste time while waiting for other children to understand curriculum that they have already mastered. Our program will ensure that your child can master the material and completely understand it before moving on when appropriate.
Myth: Montessori techniques are still new and not proven.
Fact: Montessori techniques used at schools like ours are some of the fastest growing techniques in the world. There are over 8,000 Montessori schools in the United States and over 20,000 throughout the world. These techniques have proven to be very successful. There are many well-known, successful graduates from programs similar to ours. Some of these famous graduates include Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page, former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.
